Why take this tour?

Make your way to a central meeting point, below the Acropolis, to meet your guide and a small group of no more than 14. Head into the surrounding neighborhoods on foot to experience local culture through culinary traditions. Listen as your guide offers an orientation to the area and Greek cooking. Stop at specialty shops you might never find without your guide. You’ll sample traditional foods such as koulouri (bread made with sesame seeds); loukoumades (Greek honey dumplings); bougatsa (a sweet or savory pastry); and olives. Duck inside restaurants, dairies, delicatessens, and spice merchants. Learn more about Greek food and culture with each bite, asking questions of your guide and talking to shop owners. The tour’s last stop is bustling Varvakeios market, filled with stalls selling spices, meat, seafood, and fruit; it’s where neighborhood residents shop. Your tour ends in Psyri, where you can explore on your own using your guide’s recommendations.
