Alcantara Gorges Full-Day Tour from Messina

After being picked up from your Messina hotel or cruise port in time for an 8.30am, 10.30am, or 12.30pm departure (depending on option selected), set out on the around 1-hour journey to the Alcantara Gorge.

On arrival, follow your guide on a leisurely hike along part of the gorge, following forest tracks and rocky trails, and wading through low passages of the Alcantara River (waterproof clothing is available to hire if necessary). Along the way, stop to admire the scenery, looking up at the steep canyon walls and passing numerous lakes, waterfalls, and unique rock formations. After working up a sweat, cool off with a swim in a natural lake.

On the way back, pay a visit to the mountain village of Taormina, where you’ll have time to grab lunch (own expense) at a local restaurant, browse the shops, or enjoy the views from the mountaintop.

Back in Messina, your tour ends with drop-off at your hotel or cruise port around 3.30pm, 5.30pm, or 7.30pm (depending on departure time).

The Gorges of Alcantara are a spectacular place unique in the world. With a height of 50 meters they create a real canyon originated by a cooling phenomena of antiques lava flows, generated by the cold water of the Alcantara river. The Botanic Park of the gorges allows visit to this show of nature in every moment of the year with the maximum comfort and safety. From May to September when the level of the water is lower it is possible to explore a part of the canyon, polished by the water during the years. During this 7-hour guided trek there is also a visit to Taormina, one of the most suggestive places in Sicily, rich in culture, art and history.
