Is there a minimum age of gorilla trekking?
Yes, in Uganda gorilla trekkers must be a minimum age of 15 years old on the day of tracking. This restriction is in place for the safety of both the trekkers & mountain gorillas. There is currently no waiver system in place, so if you’re offered this by a safari company or trekking permit provider, tread with caution. For those below the age limit there are numerous lodges which offer childcare services, or there are other activities available to amuse them such as nature & village walks.
When is the best time of year for gorilla trekking?
Gorilla trekking is considered to be a year-round activity, both Bwindi Impenetrable & Mgahinga Gorilla National Park welcome guests year round. The easiest trekking takes place in the two dry seasons of January - February & June - September, which are also the busier tourism months.
How difficult is gorilla trekking?
You should be of a good level of fitness to complete your gorilla trek. . A trek can last anywhere from 30 minutes to eight hours, with one hour spent with the gorillas. In Uganda groups are divided into groups on the day based on ability to try & make sure the trek is enjoyable for everyone.
Where is the best place for gorilla trekking?
The success rates for gorilla trekking are comparable at all the gorilla trekking locations. The choice of trek locations therefore often comes down to which other destinations you wish to visit, the lodge you wish to stay at, permit availability & of course your trip budget.
