Machame route is also know as the Whiskey route given it's reputation for being a tough climb. The Machame route climb can be done in a minimum of six days and five nights on the mountain. However it's the most tackled over seven days and six nights for a better altitude acclimatization schedule. The begins at Machame Gate, located in the southern base of the mountain, within it's lush, fertile rain-forest.
The route heads toward the Shira plateau before circling along the southern circuit halfway around the mountain, exposing the climbers to great views from all angles. The approach to summit is made from the east and the decent follows the Mweka trait then back to Moshi.
