This orangutan rehabilitation centre trains orphaned or rescued orangutans how to survive in the wild. Over 25 orangutans live in the forest within the nature reserve and often return to the centre at feeding times. Upon arrival head to the feeding area to watch the orangutans come down from the trees for a free meal.
Duration: 1 hour
08:00 am, depart hotel for Batang Ai Iban Longhouse, Nanga Mengkak Longhouse. After meet our guide, we continue the journey through rural Sarawak, passing pepper gardens, cocoa and rubber plantation and rice fields A few stops will be made along the way. First stop will visit the colourful native market in Serian town where a variety of jungle produce such as edible ferns, bamboo shoots and unusual tropical fruit are on display. Visit a pepper garden. Lunch en route. A native longboat awaits you at the river for 1-hour boat journey through the tropical rain forest to reach the longhouse, home of the Iban tribe. Relax on the ruai (common verandah) and spend time with the Iban people. After dinner, we have a cultural dance or warrior dance (Ngajat) from Iban people, learn about their culture and enjoy some local rice wine (Tuak and Langkau). Overnight stay.
After breakfast, witness a blowpipe demonstration, followed by a cockfighting demonstration & jungle trekking (1 hour).
