In the morning, you will meet your tour guide at gate of Green Lake Hotel (No. 6 Cuihu South Road) and walk through Green lake park, the bustling green center of Kunming. Stroll through this beautiful park to see the daily life of modern Chinese people, where people practice Taichi, local middle-aged ladies come to ‘square dance’ and grandpa’s jam together with their traditional Chinese instruments. Yunnan military academy, a famous military school from the last century, is on the opposite side of the park. Learn about recent Chinese military history and Kunming’s importance as a military center. Then we take a car to Zhuanxing Market which is one of the most popular markets in Kunming city. You can see all kinds of food, like fresh fruit and vegetables, varieties of sausages and seasoning, handmade noodles and even roasted suckling pig used in ceremonies. For lunch, you can try lots of local snacks there.
The Dian Opera stage is hidden inside this market. Dian Opera, also known as Yunnan Opera, is an ancient form of opera specific from this region and was even named an intangible cultural heritage in China. You can sit here and have a rest while watching the opera. Later we will head to Zhuangxing Park, where you can see how the seniors of Kunming entertain themselves during the day.
