Get picked up in the early morning from your accommodations in Cusco. Transfer from there to Ollantaytambo, where you’ll board a train to Aguas Calientes, considered the gateway to this famous Inca site.
Ride the rails past towering Andean valleys, idyllic villages and the roaring Urubamba river below, eventually arriving in Aguas Calientes. You’ll transfer here to a bus for the short ride up the hill to Machu Picchu.
Spend the next couple of hours on a guided exploration of this ancient “wonder of the world,” discovering key city features including the royal quarters, sacred solar clock, the circular tower, the main plaza, temple of three windows and the cemetery for Inca royalty. You’ll have time after your guided tour to enjoy the site on your own and capture some great photos.
Finish your Machu Picchu visit and head back down to Aguas Calientes by bus. You’ll have time to get lunch in town (own expense), visit the city’s well-known hot springs, or shop at the market before boarding the train back to Ollantaytambo and then back to Cusco by bus.
