The Outlander, Palaces & Jacobites Experience from Edinburgh

Highlights

  • Travel back in time to Jacobite Scotland and the world of Outlander

  • Visit at least seven Outlander locations, including Lallybroch

  • Learn insider gossip about characters and filming from your local guide

  • Explore the picturesque village of Culross, aka Cranesmuir

Summary

As soon as you board your vehicle in central Edinburgh, the stories begin: tales of the series, the stars, and the settings. First up is 16th-century Midhope Castle, aka Lallybroch, and then Blackness Castle, the fortress that doubles as Black Jack’s headquarters. Next, stop in Linlithgow with its ruined palace where Mary Queen of Scots was born—and Jamie was imprisoned in Wentworth Prison. If you’d like, you can choose to explore Callendar House, where the Duke of Sandringham lost his head. No Outlander location tour would be complete without visiting Culross, or Cranesmuir, a perfect example of how villages must have looked in 18th-century Scotland. Admire towering Mercat Cross, Culross Palace gardens, home to Claire’s herb garden, and, if time permits, the ancient Tuilyies Standing Stones. Your last stop before you return to Edinburgh is 17th-century Hopetoun House, the residence of the Duke of Sandringham on the show.
