Make your way to Pier 4 to board the Spirit of Mount Vernon, a comfortable riverboat with indoor and outdoor seating. Set out along the Potomac River, pass a series of riverside landmarks on the trip over to Mount Vernon. As you travel, an onboard guide shares historical facts and stories from DC's fascinating past.

Upon arrival at Mount Vernon, step into the sprawling estate with free time to explore the grand, 21-room mansion where the Washingtons lived, and walk the winding paths of the English-style gardens.

There's a 4-acre (1.6-hectare) Pioneer Farm on the banks of the Potomac and interpreters to help tell the stories of the roughly 100 enslaved people who lived and worked at Mount Vernon. Before catching the boat back to DC, visit the museum to see interactive displays, an action-adventure movie, and a series of 23 exhibit-filled galleries.
