Why take this tour?

You'll meet your guide on Anson Street, who over the course of 90 minutes, will take you on an uncensored journey of Charleston's sordid past. Hear the tales of brothels, corruption, prostitutes, scandals, and crime, and learn the city's darker secrets that other tours leave out. While pastel-colored homes, sunshine, and southern hospitality reign supreme in the coastal city, it isn't always champagne and mimosas down here on the Charleston streets. From centuries ago to the present day, Charleston has been a place where high society is riddled with scandal, temptation, sin, and truly unruly behavior.  Whether it’s a fascinating story about a legendary brothel, or a look back at ancient forms of punishment, find out what really went on in the streets in the "Holy City" of Charleston. About operator:

Our founder, John LaVerne, has a deep love for Charleston, history, and storytelling. While being a tour guide was initially just a hobby, about 60 seconds into giving his first tour, John was hooked – by his enthralled audience and the chance to share his love of Charleston with others. He founded Bulldog Tours to raise funds for the preservation of The Old Exchange Building. The rest, as the tour team says, is history.
