Summary
Our Complete Vatican Tour is designed to give you a unique understanding of the history and world-class art collection of the Vatican. It shows you all the classics and throws in a few surprises to take you on a deep, artistic adventure in just over 3 hours.
Description
We start by skipping the (always long) lines to get into the museum and diving right into the galleries holding some of the most famous works of art in the world. Our specially-designed route encompasses all the can’t-miss pieces while also including some of the lesser known works that will really dazzle you. Your expert, English-speaking guide will give you eye-opening insight and context (along with some great stories) as you explore the Raphael Rooms, the Belvedere courtyard with ‘Apollo Belvedere’ & the Laocoön group, the Pinecone Courtyard, the Gallery of the Candelabra, the Gallery of the Maps, and the Gallery of the Tapestries.

The piece-de-resistance is, of course, the Sistine Chapel. Your guide will prep you for your time here by telling you the stories behind the creation of the iconic frescoes as well as what they mean. When you enter, you will then be able to appreciate the full majesty of the room, spotting little details like Michelangelo’s self-portrait and the rather painful revenge he plotted for the Pope’s aide (he wasn’t his biggest fan…)

Finally, we trade the artistic masterpieces of the Vatican Museums for the architectural masterpiece that is St. Peter’s Basilica. Traveling with a licensed guide has its perks, as you’ll learn when you use the special guides-only door leading from the Sistine Chapel directly to the Basilica (and past long general access lines).

Built over St. Peter’s tomb, it took the best minds of the Renaissance more than 120 years to complete St. Peter’s Basilica. It was worth every second though, as you’ll discover during a 1-hour tour with your guide. They’ll lead you to Michelangelo’s ‘Pietà’ (the only work he ever felt the need to sign: Your guide will tell you why) Bernini’s soaring baldacchino altar, and the well-worn feet of St. Peter, which pilgrims rub for good luck.

While many tour operators fit 25 or more people into their Vatican tours we’ll never put you with a group of more than 20. We’re passionate about the Vatican and want to share that passion with you in intimate groups led by the most engaging, and knowledgeable guides in the Vatican.

In case St.Peter's Basilica is not accessible from the Sistine Chapel (due to Covid site restrictions or due to preparations for high masses or special events), you will spend more time inside the Museums & Chapel and your guide will give you an introduction to the church should you wish to visit this on your own at a later time.

As with all museums, particular galleries of the Vatican museums can sometimes be closed without prior notice and pieces removed for restoration or loan. In the case of a gallery being closed, your guide will take you to another section of the museums instead.
Also, please remember that the Sistine Chapel is a holy place, and attire must be appropriate for the visit. Both men and women are asked to wear clothing that covers at least the shoulders and knees.

FAQ Can I bring my bags in the Vatican?

According to Vatican Museum rules, only small bags can be brought inside the Museums. Handbags and small backpacks (no larger than 40cm x 35cm x 25cm) may be carried inside but anything larger than that, plus large umbrellas, must be checked at the cloakroom. Items may be left at the cloakroom without charge, but please note that you must return to this spot to collect your belongings before 5:00 pm or return the following day. As our tours mostly end at St. Peter’s Basilica this is quite inconvenient, as you will be required to walk about 20 minutes from there back to the entrance of the Museums. In the case of our Vatican Highlights Tour, guests may have to leave the tour early in order to reach the cloakroom before it closes, and thus will not be able to visit St. Peter’s Basilica.

Can I go back to the Vatican museum after the tour?

Once the tour completes, you may remain in St. Peter’s Basilica for as long as you like, however, you will be unable to go back into the Vatican Museums.

Can I remain in Saint Peter's after the tour?

Once the tour completes, you may remain in St. Peter’s Basilica for as long as you like, however, you will be unable to go back into the Vatican Museums.

Can I take photos inside the Sistine Chapel?

No, non, ne, nee, absolutely not. And the Sistine Chapel guards are scary, so we don’t recommend trying it.

Do our Vatican tours include Skip the Line Access?

Yes. All of our Vatican tours include skip the line access as standard. This means that we use the special group entrance with pre-reserved timed-entry tickets, so you’ll never have to wait in long general access lines. For extra special entry, check out our Pristine Sistine Tour.
Any of our group tours that visit St. Peter’s Basilica also include skip the line access there.

Can I visit the Dome of Saint Peter's after my tour?

Your guide will show you where and how to get the tickets to climb the dome. Once the tour is over, you can remain in St Peters for as long as you want and then exit to climb the dome. Please note, the desk will only accept cash for tickets.
