Start to tour at the South Slope entrance to the Acropolis. Perched high on the tremendous rock sitting in front of you, this citadel brimming with temples and monuments is not only an important landmark for Greece, but the entirety of European Civilization.

Begin heading up the hill and learn about the origins of the Acropolis and the entirety of Athens. According to Greek mythology, this city was officially created the day the Gods decided to have a contest. The growing city would be named after the deity who would offer to mortals the most useful gift. The contest took place between the god of the sea Poseidon and the goddess of wisdom Athena. Poseidon struck the rock with his trident and produced a salt spring, while Athena offered an olive tree, for peace and prosperity.

Visit the Theatre of Dionysus! Most Classical Greek plays were born at open-air play festivals celebrating Dionysus with prizes for the best. Comedies were very satirical plays that mocked men in power for their vanity and foolishness. Meanwhile, Tragedy dealt with the big themes of love, loss, pride, the abuse of power and the fraught relationships between people and gods.

Follow the Peripatos whose name literally means ‘walking around’. This ancient pathway that leads to the Panathenaic Way takes us past cult sanctuaries like that of Asclepios where worshippers would go for healing, past grand porticos, Byzantine cisterns and bronze foundries.

Discover the Odeon of Herodes, a beautiful stone theatre structure located on the southwest slope of the Acropolis of Athens. Soak up singing and culture under the vast Attican sky on balmy summer nights. It's actually still used for modern performances and a whole host of artists and musicians have performed here, from Elton John to Florence and the Machine!

Make your way up to the Acropolis. Everything up here was built within a generation of each other, during the Greek Golden Age around 460 – 430 BC. The four major monuments we’ll see up here at the top of the Acropolis, the Parthenon, Erechtheion, Propylaea and Temple of Athena Nike were all built as a coherent ensemble and given a complementary style

Visit the famous Parthenon, the largest Doric temple in Greece. It was a symbol not only of the power, wealth and culture of Athens, but also of its mathematical prowess, it’s commitment to the Gods and Athens’ resistance to Persian invasion. It was the largest and most lavish temple the Greek mainland had ever seen. Today, it is one of the most recognized buildings in the world and an enduring symbol of Ancient Greece.

Learn the story of the Erechtheion and the porch of the Caryatids. This temple was dedicated to the Patron goddess and boasted the oldest and most important statue of her. Life-size and made of olive wood, protected by six of the finest examples of Ionic columns anywhere. Sadly, one of these six columns is now missing, while her five sisters wait for her in the Acropolis Museum.

Finish the tour overlooking Athens and learn about the best places to visit such as the Athenian Agora, The Roman Agora, Hadrian’s library, temple of Zeus, Poseidon and Aegina. Set off to find amazing Greek food like moussaka, pastitsio which is like a Greek lasagne, stuffed eggplants and zucchinis, keftedes meatballs, lamb chops and souvlaki pita, a Greek favourite!

About operator:

Too many people visit places without discovering anything about them. And we can’t let that happen.

We believe that the true essence of travelling lies in the joy of discovering the authentic face of cities, neighbourhood and cultural sites, and unlocking the many tales they hold.

With that spirit in our hearts, we started out in search of these stories hidden in the nooks and corners of Paris, London, Cambridge and Oxford's most iconic spots. We then dived into each place’s culture, history, and traditions by collaborating with historians, famous architects, photographers, street artists, and many more. What we ended up finding was a treasure trove of stories that we have meticulously tied together just for you!

But how to deliver this information? We didn’t want to create another Wikipedia, with people looking at their phones instead of the sites. And let’s face it, audioguides and headsets belong to the 20th century.. This is why we’ve created our own storytelling format. Podcast-style tours, enriched with photos and videos, that keep you wanting more.

Our goal is to create a form of travel that will make you truly discover the places you visit.
