Summary | On this VIP experience of the Sistine Chapel, we see Michelangelo’s masterpiece before the crowds arrive then enjoy a full buffet breakfast in the Pinecone Courtyard. So you don’t miss out on the rest of the Vatican, we also visit the highlights of the Vatican Museums and enjoy a skip the line tour inside St. Peter’s Basilica. We designed this tour to give you the most satisfying and relaxing experience possible as you see the top treasures of one of the world’s greatest art museums. |
Description | We start early, skipping the notoriously long lines into the Vatican and following a special route through the museums that gets you to the Sistine Chapel just as it opens for the day, a full hour before most of the other crowds arrive. Here, our small group of just 15 people or fewer will spend a peaceful 30 minutes soaking up Michelangelo’s Masterpiece before we escort you to the Pinecone Courtyard for large buffet breakfast including hot and cold food, fruit juice, tea, and coffee. Once you’ve eaten your fill, we’ll head back into the museums for a tour of the most famous artifacts, including the Belvedere Torso, the Apollo Belvedere, the Laocoön Group, and the Raphael Rooms, widely considered to be among the most beautifully-frescoed interiors on earth. The last stop of the tour is St. Peter’s Basilica. But instead of heading outside to wait in line, we’ll slip through a special, underground tunnel that takes us directly into the Basilica for a full tour including Bernini’s Baldachin, Michelangelo’s Pietá, and more. |

Know before you book | While the Vatican Museums are equipped with elevators for wheelchair and stroller access, they are not conveniently located on the group tour route and only give access to specific sections of the Museums. We advise clients to contact Walks Customer Service Team to make further arrangements. Please notify us before booking if you have any food allergies, dietary restrictions, or other special requirements during your tour. |
Know before you go | Please note that the tour meeting time is 30 minutes prior to the start time. No refunds or re-bookings can be provided for late arrivals or no shows after tour commencement or departure. As with all museums, particular galleries of the Vatican museums can sometimes be closed without prior notice and pieces removed for restoration or loan. In the case of a gallery being closed, your guide will take you to another section of the museums instead. Also, please remember that the Sistine Chapel is a holy place, and attire must be appropriate for the visit. Both men and women are asked to wear clothing that covers at least the shoulders and knees. Walks cannot be held responsible for denied entry due to improper dress. Please note that, since the chapel is at the end of the Vatican visit, it is sufficient to bring extra coverings with you and put them on before our entrance to the holy areas. On rare occasions, when St. Peter's Basilica is being prepared for high masses or a special private event, including the Easter ceremonies, the tour group exit and/or the basilica itself can be closed without prior notification. Your guide will still give you an introduction to the church should you wish to visit this on your own at a later occasion. We are unable to provide refunds or discounts. Please note that guests may only carry small handbags inside the Vatican Museums. Larger backpacks and big pointy umbrellas etc must be left at the cloakroom. It is the responsibility of the guest to return to the Vatican Museums entrance to collect these after the tour. Please ensure that all members of your party have a valid ID on them on the day of the visit. This is particularly important for guests who have qualified for child reduction. Please notify us before booking if you have any food allergies, dietary restrictions, or other special requirements during your tour. |

FAQ |
Can I bring my bags in the Vatican?
According to Vatican Museum rules, only small bags can be brought inside the Museums. Handbags and small backpacks (no larger than 40cm x 35cm x 25cm) may be carried inside but anything larger than that, plus large umbrellas, must be checked at the cloakroom. Items may be left at the cloakroom without charge, but please note that you must return to this spot to collect your belongings before 5:00 pm or return the following day. As our tours mostly end at St. Peter’s Basilica this is quite inconvenient, as you will be required to walk about 20 minutes from there back to the entrance of the Museums. In the case of our Vatican Highlights Tour, guests may have to leave the tour early in order to reach the cloakroom before it closes, and thus will not be able to visit St. Peter’s Basilica. Can I go back to the Vatican museum after the tour?Once the tour completes, you may remain in St. Peter’s Basilica for as long as you like, however, you will be unable to go back into the Vatican Museums. Can I remain in Saint Peter's after the tour?Once the tour completes, you may remain in St. Peter’s Basilica for as long as you like, however, you will be unable to go back into the Vatican Museums. Can I take photos inside the Sistine Chapel? No, non, ne, nee, absolutely not. And the Sistine Chapel guards are scary, so we don’t recommend trying it. Do our Vatican tours include Skip the Line Access?Yes. All of our Vatican tours include skip the line access as standard. This means that we use the special group entrance with pre-reserved timed-entry tickets, so you’ll never have to wait in long general access lines. For extra special entry, check out our Pristine Sistine Tour.
Your guide will show you where and how to get the tickets to climb the dome. Once the tour is over, you can remain in St Peters for as long as you want and then exit to climb the dome. Please note, the desk will only accept cash for tickets. |
