DAY 3

Strasbourg gourmet food & wine tour

Discover the city of Strasbourg in a fun & informative way as you taste some of the best gastronomic produce of Alsace. Cuisine and gourmet food are passions for most French people and the region has many specialities combining its unique French and Germanic cultural heritage — a very special flavour!

From lovely fresh white asparagus, local foie gras, juniper-flavoured sauerkraut, pies made from local berries, smocked mountain hams, colourful Quetsche plums, breads of all shapes, to delicious cakes and pastries, our local produce are known all over France.

Stroll through the pedestrian narrow lanes of the historical city center, admire the famous Cathedral of Notre-Dame, the gorgeous “Petite France” district and beautiful squares such as “Place Gutenberg.

On Wednesday and Friday it is also market day in Strasbourg. Follow your guide as you are introduced to some of the local food as well as traditional Arts & Crafts. Along the way, we will sample local food such as cured meat & cheese paired with local wines. Other stops will include tasting some traditional Alsatian brioche “kouglof”.

Visit & Wine Tasting in charming villages along the Alsace Wine Route

Depart for a half-day small group tour along the Alsace wine route to discover some of the most fascinating wines of France. Renowned for its aromatic white wines, the Alsace wine region is ideally suited with its dry and sunny climate, complex geology, favorable soils, and excellent exposure.

During this half-day tour from Strasbourg, you will taste wine in 2 different wineries. As you experience a tasting session, learn about the 7 different types of Alsace wines.

This small group half-day trip departs from Strasbourg for the lovely town of Obernai located on the Alsace “Wine Route”. Upon arrival, follow your guide and marvel at Obernai's little winding streets, old houses with multicolored tiles, ensigns, ramparts and the statue of St. Odile; the patron saint of Alsace.

After a guided walking tour of the town, enjoy your first wine tasting session in one of our selected wineries of this Alsace wine tour. Your tour will then continue along the breathtaking Alsace wine route to admire the stunning landscape. On your way, enjoy a second wine tasting session in a typical Alsace “caveau”. Return to Strasbourg.

DAY 2

On this day leave Strasbourg and cross the Border into Southern Germany to visit one of the most beautiful regions of the area with your English speaking tour guide.

Visit the town of Baden-Baden

At first you will cross the nearby border of France into Germany leaving the Grand Est region and entering the state of Baden Württemberg. The Black Forest is a wooded mountain range bordered by the Rhine valley to the west and south.

The highest peak is Feldberg with an elevation of 1,493 meters (4,898 feet). The name Black Forest comes from the general dark color of the numerous pine trees that grow in this region. The Black Forest gateau and the cuckoo clocks originate from this region.

Reach the town of Baden Baden, nestled at the foot of the black forest. The city has attracted royalty, the rich and celebrities over the centuries. Follow your guide and discover the numerous architectural splendors and magnificent villas that are lined along the Lichtentaler Allee.

After this short walking tour, admire the landscape as your tour follows the Schwarzwaldhochstrasse. Here, the numerous viewpoints and belvedere will allow you to take in stunning scenes of the Upper Rhine Valley of the Vosges mountain range of France in the distance.

Discover Mummelsee Lake

Arrive at pretty Mummelsee lake where you will have some free time for personal discovery and lunch. With a circumference of 800 m, a depth of 17 m and an elevation of 1,036 m, Mummelsee is the largest, deepest and highest of the seven cirque lakes. Here, you might want to try the local food such as the cured meats or the world-famous Black Forest cake that leaves nobody indifferent!

Follow the Badischer weinstrasse on the way back

After lunch your tour will continue along the wine route of the Badische Weinstrasse. This wine route is the longest in Germany as it spans for more than 500 kilometers. The route is lined with charming small towns, picturesque villages, beautiful landscapes and mighty castles. Along the route, your guide will certainly make a few stops for great photo opportunities.

One such stop will be in the village of Sasbachwalden. Set in the vineyards, this very well tended village is famous for having won the prestigious 'flowering of the villages' national exam. This can be seen as you stroll through the streets and admire the gorgeous flower decked half timbered houses. After the stop, return to Strasbourg.

Beautiful Towns, Villages & Amazing Landscapes - What a Combination!

It includes the visits of towns, monuments, small traditional villages and historical landmarks.

Visit Colmar with your own personal guide

Your first destination of the day is Colmar. Described by Frommer’s as ‘one of the most attractive towns in Alsace’, Colmar is situated in east-central France, in a border region that was once disputed between France and Germany. The city is renowned for its well preserved old town, its numerous architectural landmarks and its museums, among which is the Unterlinden Museum with the Isenheim Altarpiece.

Colmar is also one of the gateways to the Alsace Wine Route. Your tour will certainly lead you to the “Maison des Tetes”, an outstanding German Renaissance building and to the Little Venice neighborhood where gorgeous half timbered houses are lined along the Lauch River.

Other significant landmarks include the Koifhus, the Pfister house, Saint Martin church, the covered market. Finally, your guide will certainly mention Bartholdi, the sculptor who designed the Statue of Liberty and who was born in Colmar in 1834.

Explore Eguisheim & Riquewihr villages

Then depart for the most beautiful village of Eguisheim. Surrounded by vineyards, the narrow and concentric streets highlight the architectural merits of its half-timbered houses, lovingly decorated with flowers. After a walk in the village your tour then continues on to the beautiful town of Riquewihr.

Surrounded by ramparts, the village has been very fortunate to survive war and destruction. Its tiny streets, fortified walls and old houses have preserved their 16C splendor virtually intact, making for remarkable architectural harmony. Free time for personal discovery and lunch.

Drive along the Spectacular Alsace Wine Route

Located between the Rhine Valley and the Vosges mountain range, the 60-year-old route winds across the slopes for more than 170 kms. The itinerary leads across rows of undulating, vine covered hills, and through quaint villages with narrow streets and charming flower decked houses clustered around the local church steeple.

Visit Haut Koenigsbourg castle

Finally, reach Haut Koenigsbourg castle. Here, follow your guide for a tour of this mighty fortress that overlooks the valley. Built in 12th century, the Castle occupied a strategic position controlling the wine and wheat routes to the North and the salt route that came from the East. After the visit return to Strasbourg.
