Market Tour and Cooking Experience in Coimbatore with a Local

Summary

This is a unique opportunity to visit the home of a local and explore traditional culture and cuisine. Meet Jaswant at his home and drive together to the local market, 4kms away. Explore a fish and vegetable market selling local and regional fish and produce from neighboring states. Discover the ingredients that go into making South Indian cuisine at the market before returning to his home for your cooking experience. Join Jaswant in his kitchen for a cooking demonstration. Watch as your host demonstrates how to prepare 2-3 South Indian dishes from scratch. Enjoy these dishes along with other dishes Jaswant may have prepared in advance accompanied by rice and Indian breads. Your meal begins with a refreshing beverage of homemade fresh lime soda or a litchi drink, depending on the season. Your menu includes dishes such as a meat vindaloo, vegetable kurma, lentils and side vegetables that are enjoyed with Kerala-style breads, such as appam or puttu. You’ll finish your meal with one of Nandita and Ranjita’s delicious desserts, perhaps their fragrant tender coconut pudding.
