Why take this tour?

Your tour will begin with pick up directly from your hotel in downtown Providence. Then, we’ll take you on a narrated drive through the city while passing by Burnside Park, along the way to our first stop at the Rhode Island State House. The State House has been described as “one of the grandest state houses in the U.S. for the country’s smallest state.”

After your statehouse visit, we will continue on with a fact-filled, narrated drive through the city while passing by multiple points of interest including: Prospect Terrace Park, the Old State House and Brown University.

Next, we will take a visit to the John Brown House Museum where you will learn about the Brown family who were one of the most wealthy and influential families in the colonies and later in the United States. You will learn about how they lived at the turn of the 18th century, the pressing issues of the time and the role that Rhode Island played in the history of the nation.

Your final stop in Providence is a 50-minute relaxing boat cruise with the Providence River Boat Co. Your ride will take you through the Providence River while highlighting significant historical, nautical, and architectural spots along the way.

After the boat cruise, we will depart Providence and head over to Newport. We’ll start the second-half of the day with lunch before continuing on to the rest of your tour.

Your first stop in Newport will have you step back in time to the turn of the 20th century as we take you through the stunning Gilded Age mansions, “The Breakers” and “The Elms”, both of which initially served as summer homes for America’s wealthiest families. You will marvel at the intricate European-inspired architecture and decor and learn about the families who once lived there.

Your next stop is a relaxing boat ride aboard the Gansett Cruises Harbor Tour as the day begins to fade into evening. The timing couldn’t be more perfect as the heat of the day begins to cool with a calming breeze. While on board, you can enjoy a selection of complimentary local refreshments, including: coffee ice cream, shakes and lemonade.

After the cruise, we will take you on a scenic drive through Newport while sharing fun, historical facts along the way to Fort Adams. Here you will learn about significant American military history, dating back to the 1800s while enjoying a nice view over the bay.
