Dig-for-a-Day is a hands-on experience that combines excavating, sifting, pottery examination, and touring of an archaeological cave system. The experiences last approximately three hours and is led by professional guides under the auspices of the Israel Antiquities Authorities. Our excavation site is located within Beit Guvrin National Park, the ancestral home of King Herod, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Vast underground labyrinths of man-made rooms have been systematically uncovered by Dig-for-a-Day over the past four decades with stunning discoveries made that can now be found in museums. Dig-for-a-day is an eye-opening adventure for those who seek the thrill of an authentic archaeological dig, but with limited time. The program is open to all ages and is offered year-round and in most weather conditions (the excavation takes place underground). Participants should be physically active and feel comfortable exploring underground, partially enclosed spaces.
